Purpose:

The National Security Sciences Directorate (NSSD) of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) seeks applicants for the Division Director of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Division (NND). This position reports to the NSSD Associate Laboratory Director (ALD). The Division Director will be responsible for leading and managing the science and technology (S&T) capabilities within the Division, consistent with existing programmatic missions and emerging opportunities as well as establishing and implementing strategies for future directions in concert with NSSD leadership. NND is comprised of multi-disciplinary scientists, engineers, and mission-focused experts that collectively expand and enhance the S&T underpinnings of nuclear nonproliferation - providing research and development (R&D) and operational solutions to federal agencies seeking to strengthen security and safeguards for nuclear and radiological materials within partner countries and international nonproliferation regimes. NND works collaboratively across the laboratory to advance research focused on detection, characterization, and verification of nuclear fuel cycle operations, movement or diversion of special nuclear material, and nuclear detonations. Activities to understand, evaluate, develop, and test concepts and systems that safeguard, secure, or diminish the attractiveness of special nuclear material and/or support intelligence and counterproliferation missions are also conducted. NND staff have internationally recognized expertise in safeguards and security technologies as well as implementation concepts and measures across the full range of the nuclear fuel cycle. In addition, NND also develops and applies software to address nonproliferation missions including information management systems, data collection and analysis software, materials tracking software, and modeling and simulation tools.

Job Duties and
Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership that focuses and integrates Division capabilities toward world-class S&T goals consistent with the programmatic missions of NSSD and the Laboratory
  • Provide and/or supervise direct point-of-contact program management interface to sponsoring organizations
  • Collaborate with management peers to assist the ALD in defining and implementing strategic programmatic R&D missions for NSSD and the Laboratory
  • Partner and collaborate with internal and external organizations to integrate enrichment technology research, development, and deployment with nuclear nonproliferation missions
  • Represent ORNL before advisory committees
  • Emphasize the scientific productivity, impact, and reputation of NND and engagement of staff in professional organizations
  • Ensure the Division executes projects and delivers outcomes consistent with commitments on budget and schedule
  • Execute line management responsibilities including supervision of Division leadership, budget and business planning, salary planning, staff recruitment and development, employee relations, and performance management
  • Build Division capabilities by attracting a quality, diverse pool of top candidates, and hire staff members who are committed to world-class R&D and aspire to be the best in their field
  • Foster a diverse and inclusive work environment where every employee feels safe, heard, and appreciated
  • Serve as the division work authority, striving to implement a culture within the workplace that is attentive to the identification of hazards and responsive to providing controls and processes to address the hazards

The National Security Sciences Directorate conducts R&D to confront some of the nation s most difficult security challenges and adversaries. Our directorate houses S&T leadership in cybersecurity and cyber-physical resiliency, data analytics, geospatial science and technology, nuclear nonproliferation, and high-performance computing for sensitive national security missions. We draw on the Laboratory s exceptional facilities and work closely with leading researchers in other areas at the lab such as nuclear and chemical sciences and engineering, applied materials, advanced manufacturing, biosecurity, transportation, and computing. Required
Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will have a Bachelors, Masters, or Ph.D. in engineering, the physical sciences, or related technical fields with at least 12 years of experience focused on nuclear nonproliferation within an R&D environment.

Candidates for this position must have strong leadership and business management skills with a proven track record of communication through technical publications, development and execution of an R&D vision and strategy, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills that can interact effectively with a broad spectrum of people and issues in a fast-paced environment that spans R&D and focused delivery on the operational missions of nonproliferation sponsors.

Special Requirement:

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program. In addition, due to the SCI, you may also be subject to random polygraph testing.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
