This position is located in the Operations Section of a Base Communications Unit, Mission Support Group, in an Air National Guard Wing. This is an Air National Guard (ANG) Dual Status Technician position requiring military membership, compatible military skill assignment, and classification. The purpose of this position is to serve as an Information Technology (IT) specialist performing analytical and evaluative duties related to classified/unclassified computer networks, controlling, coordinating, and tracking all IT systems production activities, base level assistance in the operation and maintenance of the installation's computer network, and providing technical assistance, training, and support to customers. This position is responsible for providing voice, data, wireless, and information security services provided to the Wing, supported Geographically Separated Units (GSU), and tenants. This position provides tier one support to the Wing, GSU, and tenants. GS-11:
This position is located in the Operations Section of a Base Communications Unit, Mission Support Group, in an Air National Guard Wing. This position is responsible for providing voice, data, wireless, Communications Focal Point (CFP) and information security services provided to the Wing, supported Geographically Separated Units, and Tenants. The incumbent specializes in one or more of the major information technology (IT) and/or communications systems/functions managed and maintained by the Unit - network infrastructure, wireless systems, voice systems, and CFP operations. The purpose of this position is to serve as a customer support specialist performing work involving analytical and evaluative duties related to classified and unclassified information technology networks and/or cyber system with primary knowledge requirements of information processing methodology, information technology,telecommunications systems, computer capabilities, processing techniques, IT trouble ticket management,and data communications. Administers classified and unclassified local area network (LAN) clients, monitors ongoing operation of network systems to ensure hardware and software functions, and meets operational standards. Identifies and resolves complex network related problems occurring within the assigned area of responsibility. Responds to customer requests for assistance, ensuring trouble reports are handled expeditiously. Troubleshoots hardware, software, and LAN/Client operating system problems. Evaluates workstations for appropriate type of hardware and software to ensure system interoperability. Installs associated peripheral hardware in workstations. Formats hard drive file systems using current industry standards and allocates file names using proper naming conventions. Utilizes workstation troubleshooting tools. Installs, configures, and troubleshoots current downward directed operating systems. Reviews audit logs and trace files to identify, analyze, and isolate potential problem sources. Identifies and determines corrective actions to be taken due to job failures not covered by established procedures. Resolves system failures and provides advice and assistance to minimize interruptions in customers' ability to carry out critical business activities. Identifies application problems; consults with vendors and operating personnel; explores applications, operating systems, hardware and software programs to pinpoint the source of problems; and initiates corrective actions in such a way as to minimize network service interruptions. Documents results of analyses, tests, and the techniques and procedures applied in problem resolution to establish a record of activities for future use. (Continued on PD) Manages the assigned IT/communications environment with privileged access at the network level for the Wing, Geographically Separated Units (GSU), and Tenants. Plans, coordinates, installs, and continuously analyzes system design, hardware and software. Develops, recommends, and installs solutions and upgrades to ensure availability, integrity, efficiency, and reliability of all components of the assigned system. Provides Information Assurance systems support for all disciplines, ensuring the rigorous application of information security/information assurance policies, principles, and practices in the delivery of network services. Experience, education or training that has provided a basic knowledge of data processing functions and general management principles that enabled the applicant to understand the stages required to automate a work process. Must have at least 24 months experience, education, or training in analysis of the interrelationship of pertinent components of the system. Experience planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment. Experience scheduling the sequence of programs to be processed by computers where alternatives had to be weighed with a view to production efficiency. Knowledge of IT concepts, principles and practices sufficient to solve complex hardware and software component issues and maintain the availability of communication lines and equipment. Knowledge of IT standards and equipment sufficient to install, configure, and test network components such as routers, hubs, switches, servers, and network interface devices. Knowledge of network principles, concepts, equipment, and tools sufficient to assist in planning and maintaining network services; to install, test, and configure workstations and peripherals; and to instruct and assist customers in accessing network services. Knowledge of configuration management concepts and life cycle management concepts sufficient to identify the need to upgrade or enhance network component capabilities in response to network problems and deficiencies. Knowledge of customer support principles sufficient to receive, responds to, and ensures resolution of problems. Knowledge of methods, concepts, and procedures for documenting problem analysis and resolutions sufficient to maintain records of activities. Knowledge of network security principles; use concepts, experience, and methods sufficient to give needed guidance or training to customers to prevent problem recurrences and collaborate with specialists in resolving very complex problems. Must have at least 36 months experience, education, or training that approaches techniques and requirements appropriate to an assigned computer applications area or computer specialty area in an organization. Experience planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment where this entailed coordination with others outside the organizational unit and development of project controls. Experience that required adaptations of guidelines or precedents to meet the needs of the assignment. Experience preparing documentation on cost/benefit studies where is involved summarizing the material and organizing it in a logical fashion. Knowledge of applying analysis concepts to IT network systems and independent IT platforms, integration methods, performance tuning methods, test and evaluation methods and procedures, IT security principles and methods plus, project management principles and methods sufficient to plan and coordinate the installation of new products or equipment. Ability to analyze, apply methods and practices for recovering, adjusting and modifying IT systems to solve complex problems, while improving customer support practices, that minimizes interruptions in service. Knowledge of network operations, security methods, and network architecture optimization techniques; the capabilities and limitations of the IT systems, infrastructure and software configuration in order to manage the tenant network, carry out network and/or independent platform projects and coordinate efforts with others affected in the organization. Knowledge of systems development, modification, testing, installation, operations, and support concepts as well as the organization's network and infrastructure architecture and protocols to provide support related to:
test, evaluation, installation, configuration and modification of hardware and software for operating systems ,network platform, and interface connectivity. Provision of network services and planning for increased or changed requirements; modifications and integration of network systems and infrastructure consistent with existing or planned infrastructure/architecture; configuration management changes and upgrades; and connectivity between remote sites. Knowledge of the interrelationship of multiple IT systems, utilizing methods, principles, and practices covering restoral from complex computer and infrastructure system failures, recovery of systems, adjusting, modifying, and improving systems to include hardware and software components. Knowledge of methods and practices involved in the integration of system components sufficient to optimize system performance. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
