Summary: The staff scientist supports both the service and the research work of a core facility. A core facility has as its purpose to provide very specialized equipment, techniques, knowledge, and/or services for the faculty to use in the research program of the Laureate Institute for Brain Research. Due to the state-of-the-art nature of each core facility, the core has an equal focus on continuous improvement and research into developing better techniques, equipment, software, and approaches to research design and analysis. Responsibilities include development of research methodologies, carrying out of research, administrative functions, and consultation with faculty, and oversight of support staff, post docs, and students
Education: PhD in discipline related to the research field of the core facility.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: Depending on specific core facility, must have any required certifications to operate equipment.
Work
Experience: 0-5 years of post doctoral research training or experience. High quality scientific activity, as evidenced by publication of papers in peer reviewed journals, conference presentations, talks, etc. Thorough technical knowledge of the equipment of the core facility, its uses in research projects, and experience in operating and developing improvements. Experience working with faculty and researchers to provide technical services, and to provide consulting service on research design and application of equipment and analytic techniques to the conduct of research
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated, thorough technical knowledge of the equipment of the core facility, its uses in research projects, and experience in operating and developing improvements.
