Position
Summary:
The Production Technician executes a variety of work orders, capital project tasks, department project tasks, and ad-hoc requests relative to on-grounds signage needs.
Essential Duties and
Responsibilities:
Other duties may be assigned in keeping with the mission of Tulsa Zoo Management, Inc.
Operates and maintains large-format inkjet printer (Roland SOLJET Pro 4 XR-640), large-format scanner, and laminator.
Is the primary caretaker of the large-format printer.
Executes laminating, cutting, and application of printed vinyl and graphics to various materials.
Assembles signs from cut vinyl, wide-format, full-color printouts, and various substrates.
Manufactures and assembles printed materials, including preparing substrates and applying vinyl according to written instructions.
Operates and maintains laminator for over-laminating, encapsulation, or mounting of imaged or printed products.
Conducts quality assurance checks to ensure the efficient production and quality of printed or manufactured products and signs.
Installs work products in the field (indoor or outdoor), maintains in-field products, removes in-field products, and repairs mounting surfaces.
Prepares mountings, brackets, offsets, etc.

Inspects print samples for necessary adjustments or calibrations.
Examines work requests to determine quantities, stock specifications, colors, or special instructions.
Plans work to pre-prepared design.
Assures all items on request are completed in entirety.
Adjusts digital files to alter print elements, such as color balance, size, or color separations.
May be asked to execute basic typesetting (input text, position text, and alter text size).
When requested, runs proof sheet and secures approval for production run.
Maintains consistent production rate and communicates with departments regarding timing of work in queue.
Upon request, fields quotes from outsource service providers.
Ensures work product is efficiently sorted, delivered to appropriate staff, and is correctly installed or posted in proper sign holders immediately prior to start of events.
Ensures all outdated signs/related materials are removed immediately upon completion of applicable events.
Periodically checks in-field signs and decals; promptly replaces faded, worn, or damaged signs as necessary.
Monitors stock and material inventory levels on a regular basis, requesting approval for and ordering additional supplies, as necessary.
Unloads and stores raw materials.
Ensures proper care and storage of signs, sign displays, equipment, hardware, mountings, and materials.
Operates vehicles including electric and gas carts and vehicles from motor pool.
Assists in the setup of equipment for special events and patron activities.
Supports in the directed construction, fabrication, and installation of artificial exhibit elements, signage, and props, and any other assigned task.
Cleans and maintains dedicated and shared areas of the Exhibits and Design Building and Shop involving general cleaning duties.
Cleans and maintains shared-use assets, including but not limited to vehicles, radios, service areas, and internal and external building surfaces.
Operates hand tools, power tools, and mounted shop tools, including but not limited to table saw, router, drill press, jigsaw, and compound-miter saw.

Education and/or Experience No education requirement; one to three months related experience and/or training.
Must have experience with printing processes, including Versaworks RIP in a Windows environment, cut vinyl, and solvent-based, roll-fed large format printers.
Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, MSDS sheets, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, employees of TZMI, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, and percentages.
Ability to apply basic concepts of algebra and geometry.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and decimals to practical situations.
